Nigeria e-Visa (Short Visit Visa)

The Nigerian government offers an official e-Visa system designed for visitors, tourists, andconference delegates. Airlines and travel carriers will not board passengerstraveling to Nigeria without either a valid physical visa sticker, an approved e-Visa printout,or a valid ECOWAS passport.

Who needs a visa to enter Nigeria?

  • ECOWAS Citizens: Nationals of Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) member countries do not require a visa to enter Nigeria but must hold a valid ECOWAS passport or Travel Certificate.
  • All Other International Delegates: Must obtain either an e-Visa online before travel or a traditional visa from their nearest Nigerian Embassy/Consulate.

  • Apply directly on the official Nigeria Immigration Service e-Visa portal at https://evisa.immigration.gov.ng/. However, we highly recommend applying at least 3 weeks prior to your departure.

  • Validity: The single-entry Short Visit Visa is generally valid for entry within 90 days from the date of issuance and allows a stay of up to 30 days.

  • Fees: Visa fees vary depending on your nationality. The exact fee will be displayed dynamically on the portal during your application step.

  • Processing Time: Applications are typically processed within 3 to 5 working days.

Traditional Visa (via Embassy or Consulate)

If you prefer to apply in person or do not qualify for the e-Visa channel, you can submit an application through the nearest Nigerian diplomatic mission.

Required Documents for the Nigeria e-Visa

Passport Data Page: A clear, color scan of your valid international passport biodata page. Your passport must have at least 6 months validity remaining and at least 2 blank pages.
Passport Photograph: A recent, digital passport-sized photo (white background).
Travel Itinerary: A copy of your confirmed round-trip flight booking showing your arrival and departure dates.
Proof of Accommodation: A confirmed hotel booking confirmation or an invitation letter from a host in Nigeria specifying your accommodation address.

  • A valid Yellow Fever vaccination certificate (Yellow Card) is a strict health entry requirement for Nigeria and may be checked upon arrival at the airport.
  • Keep these exact same documents printed in your carry-on luggage. Even with an approved e-Visa, immigration officers at the port of entry may ask to see your physical AFRH Invitation Letter, hotel booking, and Yellow Fever Card upon arrival.

Who is eligible for the Nigeria e-Visa?

Eligibility depends on:

  1. Nationality: Many nationalities can apply for an e-Visa, but some may still require in-person applications based on bilateral agreements or visa reciprocity.

  2. Purpose of Visit: Business, tourism, short-term transit, family visits, or certain temporary work (TWP) are commonly supported.
