Dr. Gerhard Boshoff

Dr. Gerhard Boshoff graduated from the University of Pretoria in 2005, obtaining a BSc Genetics degree. Post-gradually he obtained a BSc(Hons) Human cell biology (Cum Laude) and MSc Reproductive Biology (Cum Laude) from the University of Pretoria in 2009 and 2017, respectively. He was awarded a joint-PhD from the universities of Pretoria (South Africa) and Hasselt (Belgium) in 2026, after defending a thesis titled “Validation of the Walking Egg in vitro embryo culture system with application in a mobile laboratory setup”. His MSc and PhD projects were focused on improving access to assisted reproduction in resource poor communities, and as a part of his PhD project, Dr Boshoff has designed and tested the use of a mobile IVF laboratory, with resulting live births.
He worked extensively as a Medical Scientist in South Africa, in both the private and public sectors, acquiring experience in practical embryology, laboratory functions and laboratory management. He joins the Cape Fertility Clinic (South Africa) team in January 2025, where he is the IVF laboratory director.
He is a member of the Southern African Society of Reproductive Medicine and Gynaecological Endoscopy and is the past chairperson for the Special Interest Group Embryology of this society.
